For the sixth consecutive year, Leidos sponsored the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. Presented by Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair multi-sports competition in the world, offering 18 different sports to veterans who use wheelchairs. For 35 years, it has promoted a spirit of healthy activity, competition and camaraderie between veterans.
From June 21 to 26 in Dallas, Texas, veterans competed in 18 different events such as weightlifting, basketball, rugby, softball, and handcycling. The games have produced national and world-class champions, while also providing an opportunity for recently injured veterans to gain sports skills and meet other wheelchair veteran athletes. These warriors have found new ways to rehabilitate through rigorous competition.
As part of its sponsorship, Leidos donated $50,000 to support the athletes and the event. Through its partnership with the Paralyzed Veterans, Leidos has donated nearly $100,000 in 2015 to support its activities, including the organization’s annual golf tournament and Mission: ABLE Awards event. In May, Leidos reaffirmed its commitment to our veteran community by donating 250 medical transfer boards to Paralyzed Veterans, which will be used at VA Spinal Cord Injury Centers across the country. It’s all part of Leidos’ larger commitment to supporting our military and veteran communities and giving back to those who have given so much.
