The Leidos Partnership for Defense Health wishes you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! This is a time to reflect and give thanks, especially to the millions of Americans who serve our country in the name of freedom. But it’s also a time for us to come together as a community to help others. That’s why we ask you to join us in recognizing American Diabetes Month—an opportunity for us to raise awareness about a disease that affects nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. We would also like to take a moment to give thanks to all the health IT experts and clinicians around the country working tirelessly to find innovative solutions to help the millions of people impacted by this ever-growing disease, including our very own partners, Cerner and Leidos.
Cerner and Livongo Health have partnered to help connect diabetes screening data from “smart” consumer devices with healthcare providers and their patients. This allows for more effective self-management for the millions of people battling diabetes, and also enables quicker intervention and better overall care from healthcare providers with real-time access to patient information. This is just another example of Cerner’s commitment to foster greater consumer and clinical device connectivity inside and out of care facilities.
Meanwhile, Leidos announced that it will sponsor the 2015 Tour de Cure to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association, and Leidos team members will once again put on purple cycling gear and get on their bikes in support. As a national team participating in the Tour de Cure, individuals raise funds with a goal of raising $100,000 in 2015 (a $20,000 increase over last year’s donation), and Leidos has committed to matching the donations of employees who raise at least $500 with a Leidos donation of $500, up to a total of $15,000.
As you celebrate Thanksgiving with friends, family and great food this year, we hope you will also join us in celebrating American Diabetes Month and the innovative health IT solutions that are revolutionizing the way we provide care to those who need it most.
