Key Trends in Digital Business: Platform (R)evolution

The Accenture Technology Vision 2015 identifies companies’ selection of digital platforms as preferred tools for emerging products and services – Platform (R)evolution – as a key technology trend. Companies that want to set themselves apart in the digital “We Economy” are changing the way they do business by bringing digital platforms supported by well-defined architecture, governance and services to a world full of new digital tools.

In Accenture’s report, Deere & Co.’s “MyJohnDeere” platform serves as an insightful and informative case study that brings light to this trend. MyJohnDeere didn’t just improve Deere & Co.’s bottom line by allowing them to consolidate management of equipment information, production data and other farm operations – it also created new digital partnerships with bio-chemistry and agricultural hybridization leaders. The Platform (R)evolution is expected to do a lot more than just redefine the agricultural sector – Accenture’s study found that 81% of business and IT executives said “industry boundaries will dramatically blur as platforms reshape industries into interconnected ecosystems.”
